I don't know, maybe ten years ago, I was visiting the Chicago Botanical Garden. A number of those "neighbors" were kind of swimming in a very cold small lake that is part of the garden. The number was somewhere between 2 or 3 hundred of them. It was about freezing, or somewhat below 32, the lake had not frozen up. Something spooked them, and all 2 or three hundred took off at the same time..What a shot that would have made, well I didn't have a camera and that picture is locked somewhere between my ears..But I remember that moment. Many of the neighbors do not go south, they stay up here..

As I knew when I moved closer they'd fly off, I started to get camera ready BUT: LOW BATTERY, so I couldn't catch them when they did fly off! Will be ready next time.

They're often in the river, as are ducks, and now that I know something about using the zoom, I hope to catch more of them. And I look forward to seeing the swans I saw in the creek a while ago.

And as I drove onto a 'public' road, I saw a couple of the neighborhood horses trotting along a fence. Would have LOVED to catch them!
