On their site, they have a link to the El Dorado Star Party (Oct 20-25, 2014) which might be neat and is coming up in the near future: http://eldoradostarparty.org/. In particular, they are having a speaker who will present on astrophotography with a DSLR.

The observing areas include power for telescopes and equipment, and is organized so that you may drive on-off from the nearby light-shielded parking area at night without impacting the observers on the fields. Please read the Darkout rules!
Our ESP 2014 guest speaker will be Jerry Keith, speaking on Intro to Astro Imaging Using a DSLR. Well focus on whats needed to get you imaging with a DSLR camera through a telescope and is designed for the beginner in mind. We will talk about whats needed for hardware and software to get up and running as far as capture is concerned as well as tips and tricks Jerry has learned along the way.

i also looked at the texas star party. we were talking about a trip to big bend/ft davis next year and that might be a good time to go
