I slogged my way around the pond to the aforementioned mushroom.
But prior to finding little red mushroom with wet feet, I found these. This time I took my point and shoot with the flip up screen to get down to mushroom level and still be able to see what I was doing.
Mushroomers use the gills (or not gills) and how they attach to the stem to identify the type.
Then I stumbled across the site that made the entire trip worthwhile.

(18,219 posts)Enjoyed all the photos....and especially the close ups of the undersides of the mushrooms. The one with worms is too cool. And love the look of the polypore.

(20,886 posts)So wonderful that I didn't even notice the worms until I processed it.
And I love it when you call it a hike. Makes me think I got more exercise than I did.

(18,219 posts)Makes me wonder how many worms I have eaten if you didn't notice them. I know that I am disgusting, but I don't wash my mushrooms before sautéing them because of how they absorb so much water. Mmmmmm, protein.
