Wayfarer's Chapel

Like fizzgig, I too needed to get out of the house today.......so I drove up to the Palos Verdes Peninsula to the Chapel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. I've been there before but not in several years.

Inside the Chapel:

It reminds me of a church we used to go to as a kid up near Lake Arrowhead: similar stonework, and a huge window behind the alter looking out over the mountains. Perfect for a drifting-minded little petronius who would have rather been anywhere but at Mass...

I'll have to check them out.

At the end of Sunset Blvd. means in LA proper? I can always google them to see where these gardens are!

Thanks!

We have color all year round, but even here, the winter flowers are few.

Spring brings an explosion!

This is early for our azaleas, but not by much. My neighbor's flowers are blooming like mad and shedding all over her lawn!

There are some great tide pools down the hill from there. Amazing patterns on the rocks, sea urchins, sea stars, crabs–a wonderful microcosm. Bit of a climb to get there, though.

weddings are scheduled every two hours from early afternoon on. Extremely popular wedding venue. Right across Palos Verdes Drive from the chapel is where the "big W" palm trees from the movie "Mad Mad World" used to be. All gone now, though.

Beautiful setting. I grew up there, but moved an hour north years ago. The entire PV Peninsula is LA's best kept secret. Miss it and all the South Bay beach cities.
