I did one of those a while back. I put it against a royal blue cloth for the background.

Have you tried a "stacker" program. I've just read about them. They are supposed to let you get extreme depth of field by combining several photos of the same object at different focus points.

10. A controlled setting is needed. Most of what I do now is handheld. Using the zoom and backing

12. Thanks. It seems like learning is not linear. It's one plateau, a surge, then another plateau.

The new Photos app that came with the new OSX 10.10.3 update has changed everything when it comes to RAW conversion. It's a detuned version of Aperture.

So far I haven't found a way to export directly to GIMP, but have found a different way to handle exports.
