American goldfinches are back!--looking for water in the ant cups of hummingbird feeders

I can see this feeder--on my back deck--from my desk. Keep the point and shoot camera on my
desk. This was shot through the window.

Every year I see American goldfinches coming to drink from the ant cup of the hummingbird feeder.
This year I hung a new style of feeder here--with the ant moat included--and this finch didn't seem
to want to drink from it. So I guess I'm going to dig out the old, separate, ant cup, fill it with water, and
hang it in between the hummer feeder and the hook.

My best observation of them was when I was exploring a bit of woods nearby in the late summer. I saw a huge flock of them (lots and lots of yellow) swooping down into a clearing. They were there for awhile, and after they left I walked over to see what the big attraction was. It was chickweed!

Since that time, I have always allowed a bit to grow in the backyard, and even some in the front. I even planted some in pots for my brother's 4 chickens and one rooster. They devour it almost immediately.
