Sorry for the panorama shots; they look good on my monitor so I like taking them, but they're not the best for internet forums.

Thanks for reminding me why.

(3,747 posts)Moved up permanently this summer. I absolutely love up here. I'd be willing to live in almost any area around here. The views are gorgeous, and the vibe is great.

He decided that when he grew up this is where he wanted to be. It wasn't a hard sell when he first took me here for job interviews.

One of the best things about Seattle is the parks.

(3,747 posts)I love being nearby to Ravenna as well. Not to mention 15 minutes on the Burke Gilman gets me to 4 or 5 other parks nearby. It's my favorite part about being here.

(2,948 posts)Terrible place to live, rainy, cloudy, wet and damp ALL the time. I'm talking 99.99999999%. And the salmon fishing and crabbing, just terrible, really. And the mountains, eh, they're so-so, just kinda average. So move to Florida or Arizona or California. You wouldn't really like it here, really. And you wouldn't want to live next to me (it's for sale) just an average view of the cascades, puget sound, and on a good day, mount Rainier. So really, don't move here, it's a terrible place, I'm trying to tell ya!!! Really!

btw There are only 15 five acre plots on my little rural road near McKenna, 2 of them are going up for sale. Of the 15, there are only 2 of us who call ourselves democrats....we need more sane folks out this way, Seattle is doing just fine.

(2,682 posts)Reminds me of a local reporter, Emmett Watson, who formed Lesser Seattle (the opposite of Greater Seattle, of course) who's motto was Keep the Bastards Out. The idea was to dissuade migration in order to keep the style and ambience of the area. This was back in the days when we bemoaned the Californication of Seattle.
Getting great pictures like these is an art -- have to be in the right place at the right time when the sun is shining, clouds are still forming off-shore, summer haze is gone, temperature inversion hasn't hidden "The Mountain" or made the air thick enough to chew. But then we usually have a glorious Summer. I think it was on a Wednesday last year.

(10,558 posts)I think there is a name for it, isostatic rebound or somesuch. Take all that weight from one area of the planet and remove it, the land rises, rising land might produce earthquakes. If so then the reverse could happen as well. I may need to check with Bill Nye The Science Guy on this, he started his career in Seattle so he should know a thing or two about these things.

(3,284 posts)That someday, a magnitude quake of "9", similar to Japan's will hit somewhere off the northern coast,
sending at least a 50'-high tsunami into the Seattle area.
After the main shock, people will have maybe 30-minutes or so(?) to head for the hills.
Last one was in the year 1700, in January.

Doesn't keep Seattle from being wonderful, though.
Everyone should still move there.
