Some weekend photos

A couple of times a month I elder sit with a friend of mine so her offspring can have a break. This is an old ranch planted to vineyards with a lake and one remaining donkey.

The lake was dragonfly heaven. There were Red ones and blue ones and these fellow who were the only ones I managed to capture.

Like any old ranch, it has its discards.

But sometimes the old things are still the best. This furrower (I think) is still in use.

You've shared some really nice photos over the years, but I especially like the B&W shots you've been posting since you got your new camera.

But really, it's the software I'm using. Start with a pretty good photo and then tweak it to Ansel Adams or Edward Weston standards. I'm having a ball working in black and white again. Sans the smelly chemicals and brown fingernails, of course. (Yeah, yeah, I know you were supposed to use tongs.)

The only time I ever did anything in a darkroom was when I was stationed in West Germany and wanted to make some large prints of a shot of my jeep (the Army's jeep, actually) buried up over the headlights in a truly spectacular mud hole.
(Long story, most people fall asleep by the half-way mark. Heck, you may even be asleep by this point).

I've used the NIK software for b&w as a plug-in for Lightroom. Still, you've gotta have talent to make any real use of it, and you definitely have the artist's eye.

I understand that you also paint.

Just kidding. I just wanted to use the smiley.

Yes, I paint, too. And it doesn't hurt that my father was a photographer, and owned a camera store at one point. I got lots of practice with outdated film. Remember that stuff?

You should post that photo of the jeep if you can find it.

I think I saw it out in the garage when I was cleaning up not too long ago. It's much the worse for wear, having been kicked around for the last 40 years, and never having bee framed under glass.

It was taken out at the firing range at Grafenwöhr, in late October iirc. Anyone who spent any time there knows what conditions could be like. Still, it was quite an accomplishment according to my battery commander, as he went on and on about it while I stood at attention for the harangue...

I need to really apply myself. I go in fits and spurts and don't make much real progress in my skills, which are still very rudimentary.
