(32,324 posts)The hummingbird to sit still? Those characters are so quick - i have watched them do warp drive kind of acrobatics.

(5,562 posts)for a few minutes, this species will get used to you. This one is an Anna's they are a bit more mellow and will sit on the feeder a bit. We also have rufous, little orange guys that are crazy and I haven't been able to get a good shot of one of them yet.

(32,324 posts)The hummingbirds we knew and loved back in Sausalito would actually follow M. to the store. They'd end up and wait in trees about two blocks from the shopping area of town. When he came home on the same route, they'd follow him back to the house.
At first, when I told him, this was happening, he didn't believe me. Then he realized it was true. They can be very devoted to the human they know.

(5,562 posts)the Mr would ride around on his garden tractor, wearing his red suspenders, with a line of hummingbirds following after him. He was quite alarmed by all the buzzing and zooming over his head at first. Once he came in the house with a nervous look and said to me, "you don't think they'd drive a beak into a guy's head do you?" I still laugh over that.

(205,289 posts)Amazing closeups of some critters it's tough to get close to (except perhaps for the kitty, but that is a great candid shot... ) Kudos!

(5,562 posts)The deer was a yearling who used to come by quite often with a couple other young bachelors. I called them Larry, Darrel and Darrel. Larry was easy to id because he only had the one antler growing. He was the most curious, he'd lay down in the yard just outside the house and watch all the goings on with great interest. The hummers... well the feeder brings them in by the dozen. The frog was just in the yard one day and the cat whose name is Turtle is the boss here. She likes to flop on her back and I just happened to catch her having a good yawn.
