What do photogs think of the idea of allowing two entries per person in contests

that fall short of 30 entries?

It seems we are having a difficult time getting 30 entries for most contests. I wonder
if we should have a discussion about allowing two entries/photographer for contests in 2016? From the start
of the contest or after x days pass?

I see so many wonderful shots when people post things they didn't enter--and I should
think it would provide some feedback to all of us about which shots the general public
(or DU!) like best. I have a hard time knowing what will get votes vs what shot
is maybe my favorite.

What do you think? Good idea? Bad idea? Set parameters? After 3 days of submissions
we haven't reached 30 open for 2nd submission/photog? After 4 or 5 days? Last day
only (day 6)?

What say the other photographers?

I can never compete with anyone in this group lol, but I would love to put a couple pics instead of one.

When we started these contests we had only one poll of ten entries. It escalated to twenty and then thirty. There is no reason to expect thirty every time.

Also, there are a handful who dominate the winning circle. Nothing wrong with that. They deserve to win because they are very fine photographers. But multiple entries give them an unfair advantage.

more so than multiple entries to the contest. It started with 10 and that filled up in seconds so went to 30. If there are less I would say divide them as equally as possible and go with it. Some themes are harder than others too and I still like seeing the harder themes even if they don't fill up. They make us think and work outside comfort zones. I've always looked at the contest as a learning experience more than a competition though so might be looking at the whole thing in a different way than others. I do learn from every winning & losing photo though , no matter how many there are.

I also need to rearrange life so I can get my camera out more and participate more.

but now that I know, I would say no.

We do need more participants. I have tried to encourage others to get involved, and sometimes they have.

Every once in a while someone who is rarely, if ever, actively posting in here will post something spectacular and then just disappear.

I wish more of those folks would get involved.

Never thought of this suggestion as an alternative to the problems we have as of late filling the submission threads. I think it is because I am still (as some of you surely know) po'ed about the voting no longer being secretive.
The onset of DU 3 with the open voting (and that it took almost 1 year for them to have polling re-established) was exactly simultaneous with the entries no longer filling the 30 mark once we could again have contests.
I stayed angry, felt we were not appreciated, and have not progressed much in my thinking beyond that.

So there is this new idea!
I liked it because I think this helps me with my "which shot should I use" problems. But in reading the responses I think maybe that's just selfish

I tend to think that we might keep trying to get new folks to participate, and that we might to keep trying to breathe life into our photo forum. I also have thought about maybe finding a way to not have the winners burdened with the hosting of the next contest, and therefore having folks not feel worried about being in charge of what may be a daunting process.

Either way - these are my late night thoughts - above all I'm happy that maybe we can start a discussion about making our wonderful forum pop again........

Once the contest host sets a theme and submission time frame just let the contest run it's course (with a few reminders etc. to remind people to post their entries). If the contest draws 5 entries or 30 entries who cares? Just go ahead and put the entries up to a vote and let it be.

I wonder how many people aren't participating because of being ticked off about something.

I just took a look at the entries for size requirements and several of the entries for the seasonal
contest are in violation of the longest side being limited to 800 pixels rule. (I don't view my screen
in classic mode, so I have to switch it to check). I have made a request in the comments thread
for photographers to please check size of their photos and make the adjustment if necessary.

Also, I just haven't been in the mood to shoot anything, my creativity has been in a funk lately. And obviously some contest themes are easy to come up with an entry and for some it takes more thought and effort.

And as far as the size limit, IMO that should be revised upward (although that's not the point of this thread). And personally, when I've hosted contests I never even worried about it.

I remember when it was just 10 entries per contest, and that was fine.
