Photobucket warning

Even though I'm no longer posting on DU I felt this was to important to ignore

If you host your photos on photobucket and share them here be aware that PB just changed their terms of service .Unless you have their $399/yr account you cant use 3rd party hosting which is what you do when you share them here. They are blocking peoples accounts for in theory going over an undisclosed bandwidth allotment and not even allowing people to access their own photos.

If you do a google search for photobucket 3rd part hosting you will see its all over internet forums.

Evidently they just started doing this in the last week or so

It doesn't really do anything well compared to other options. The easiest host for photos is imgur. You don't even need an account to upload and use as a host. It's not the best choice for higher quality pictures as compression will significantly reduce the quality of high resolution images. This has it's upsides and downsides as images load faster, but high quality large files will suffer.

Dropbox isn't bad if you need a bit more features and quality. Most of the more full featured options from there work best if you pay for it, especially if you need a lot of storage space.

I have my own NAS so pretty much what I do these days is put all the important stuff on that and use imgur for everything else.

From what I remember you have to use the app to create the hotlink or if on a desktop or laptop you have to have the dropbox software installed. Then you can right click on the file to get to the context that allows you to copy the hotlink address to your clipboard where you can paste it onto DU.

The problem might be that DU disabled HTML in replies a while back and haven't turned it back on as far as I know. So you'll need a direct link to the stored image instead of HTML code if that's what it's giving you.

That's years and years of photos. May Photobucket and its owners burn in hell.

Since I'd rather not put political graphics on Flickr, I'm at loss (no funds to pay Photobucket even if wanted to).

Someone's unhelpful comment was that there are plenty of photo-sharing apps w/o offering suggestions.
