(19,459 posts)How was your Memorial Day?
EDIT: That was probably poorly worded, given the reason for the holiday. I meant it like "Did you do anything pleasant over the long weekend," not to make light of the meaning of the day.

(90,765 posts)My husband is retired military, a veteran from two war zones and over 20 years in.
And if it wasn't for other people reminding the both of us, we would not have remembered it was MD weekend.
Worse, we live in a retiree military community, alongside active duty, and he still works for the government as a civilian.
They didn't remind us pointedly, simply talked about the weekend coming up.
So you can well imagine how little offended I am right now.
I'm growing green beans and those things are getting big and going everywhere. My tomatoes have not liked the cooler weather and are only now getting enough heat to produce fruit and they are over 3 feet tall.
My bell peppers are coming along nicely, as is my oregano and basil. My lettuce is doing its best, I'm sure.
That's what I did this weekend - played with my plants.
I'll trade with my neighbor for squash and green onions. My other neighbor is growing cukes and zucchini. I'll trade with them as well.
Between us all we'll be able to make a simple salad. Maybe.

(19,459 posts)And good for the soul, as it were.
I spent time with my kids in Los Gatos, helping them pack for a move to SoCal. Had a nice, homemade Italian meal at a table under some huge oak trees. It was 96° out, so the shade was really welcome. We really like hanging out with our youngsters, so it made for a nice day.
I remembered that your husband was ex-military, hence my concern about the way I had phrased my question. I didn't do 20 years but I did do 3 active, from 17 to 20, in an armored cavalry regiment. The other day I was telling my wife that it has been so long since I served that, when I think back on it, it feels like I'm watching a movie about someone else's life.
Glad you passed the weekend pleasantly. Enjoy that salad.

(19,459 posts)I went in to this store to sit down to recover a bit from some mild heat stroke, looked up, and she was staring right at me.

(51,590 posts)I worked in Display at Macy's and decided to change careers, again, when I saw the writing on the wall...they lopped the heads off of all the mannequins I had been dressing for three years. "Let them eat cake" was my final display.
