I've realized over the years to pay special attention to sunrise when there are clouds.

Looks a lot like what I saw outside my window this morning. Did you see Venus and Mercury and Saturn before the sunrise? They are kind of spread out but they are the last things you can still see as daylight arrives.

Other mornings when the sky is clear of clouds, I have noticed how bright--probably Venus--has been.

Saturn is getting further away but is almost overhead while Mercury, not often visible, is below Venus and off to the left a bit a little less than half way up to Venus from the horizon and fades as the day gets lighter. Been watching since the clouds passed on a few nights ago.
