A little moon play in honor of California Peggy

I noticed the moon rising amidst the clouds here about half an hour ago. I can never look at the moon and not think of my dad, who was an amateur astronomer. The full moon--the Wolf Moon--is tomorrow in the afternoon.

Here are three shots to give you the mood.

First, the moon in relationship to the landscape

Then a zoom to catch the detail amidst the clouds

And finally, an edit to give you the sense of the moon rise at sunset (adjusted the contrast using Pix)

The last image feels like a painting to me and is my favorite. Not what the eye really saw, but what I felt.

This is the first evening I've captured any moon images worth sharing from my balcony. Don't know whether it's more city light, atmospheric disturbance, or just me not figuring out settings, but I never had the problem when shooting off my deck in the woods in Chapel Hill. I was pleased to get these shots.
