(12,154 posts)We had a vine this year, but the Gulf Fritillary caterpillars devoured all the leaves before the plant could blossom! We'll get an earlier start next time.

(14,559 posts)only 40 miles away. Somehow they haven't found me here yet. I compromised with them by planting three plants, one for me and two for them. Insecticide has it's place and I can co-exist with anything.
There is a native variety called MayPop. Not as showy but prolific to the point that it has to be contained by 10' of stonework or a regular lawn mowing. In a week it will put out runners that are 6" tall. The GFs enjoy it just as well.
