(22,451 posts)if I told you how happy it makes me to find this photo, and the dedication to me and a better tomorrow.
Now, let me tell you why it took so long for me to find it, and it's not my eyes.
I live on a busy hilly street in one of NC's larger cities. A truck, Friday around noon, came down that street too tall and too fast (I'm surmising because I was not home) and it's top ripped the electrical power cords to my house, and ripped out all electrical stuff that I don't have names for and tore down the downspout which damaged a gate in my fence. i am writing this in a motel room where Lola and I have been residing. I've had no power, no internet, no energy to do anything but schlepp dry ice to my house 3 x so far because I have 2 chest freezers. And we are in a heat wave.
Don't cry for me Argentina.
I'm good, and Lola and I are making the best of the adventure while the electrician worked at the house yesterday late afternoon and all day today and maybe we can get it inspected Monday..
It was stressful, but now I'm back, and my eye gets a tiny bit better every day.
Thank you so much George McGovern.
I was young, not long in the country as an immigrant off the boat, when I hurried to become a citizen to vote for McGovern.
I remember the election very well, I was newly married, and gave my first big party that night.

I will not cry for you Argentina, but what a catastrophe to lose power like that! Hope you can get back home SOON and that you get compensated for all the expense and inconvenience and frustration AND I am pleased you and Lola are making the best of this adventure!
I have worked with people living with blindness, "seen" how their spirits were affected. Some coped, others couldn't. I cannot imagine losing sight. My prayers are that your vision is restored. May that be. It is encouraging that your eye gets a tiny bit better each day.
With regard to Mr. McGovern I was young also when he ran for election. I chose his name for my DU username because I voted wholeheartedly for him for president. Broke my heart when he lost. I consider Mr. McGovern the greatest president who never was.
I'm glad you have such good memories that night and I, for one, am happy you became a citizen then.
Peace,
George
