(16,337 posts)I was stunned when they started blooming....entire streets lined with them. Beautiful....
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,611 posts)Even though I'm used to them, I'm always a bit surprised when they start blooming every spring.
They look pretty ordinary until the flowers show up!

(31,989 posts)I so enjoy seeing your beautiful trees and flowers, CaliforniaPeggy... They are so different from what we have here in Ohio.

(149,611 posts)I'm so glad you enjoy my little photos. Nothing monumental or amazing, just everyday beauty.
I know you have lovely things there in Ohio too. I've been there in the fall and the trees are incredible.

(149,611 posts)No scent at all--I've checked. But they make up for that lack with the wonderful foliage and flowers.

(6,913 posts)Its beautiful here in May and June, but I miss the flowering colors of bougainvillea and jacaranda.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,611 posts)I'd miss them too, if I had to live somewhere else.
You have a lot of beauty in Oregon! Pine forests, waterfalls, rhododendrons and the list goes on!

(5,395 posts)I go out of my way to drive down it, slowly, when they are full bloom. As per the picture, but X1,000, flowers totally covering each tree.
I do get the scent of sweet nectar, or is that my imagination?
Wife, ex UK, coming to Australia . . . referred to them as Bluebell trees when she first saw them.
An apt name!
We have two in the front yard, must be 50 years old. Seem to be very insect proof. Lost local trees through termites, but the Jacaranda seem to be immune.
Which is good, hate to have to take them down.

(149,611 posts)They are scattered throughout our neighborhood, but not as solidly as yours.
I have never gotten even a whiff of scent from the tree, and I've been very close to mine, as it's just outside my balcony!
They get quite large as well as old here. Ours was just a sapling when we planted it, and now it's at least 20 years old, if not older. I haven't seen anything attack it, thank goodness.

(18,632 posts)She was born June 6 and driving to the hospital I noticed all the purple trees that had suddenly bloomed.
Now when the Jacaranda's bloom I always know my daughter's birthday is soon.
