Related: About this forumAugust Contest Theme and assorted information
I will be your humble host for the August competition and invite all you DU photogs to spread the word here at the Underground about participation in the contest. There are no qualifying rules or anything of that nature. We have a few things to say about image size but generally this is a low key, no pressure, fun way to share a photo.
The theme is chosen by the winner of last month's contest, Grumpy Old Guy. He is calling it 'A Brief Moment in Time'.
"This would be the shot that can't be set up, that is gone--or significantly different--within a few seconds. Action shots of people or animals or storms (lightning, for example) or anything else that is changing within a short period of time. Sunrise, sunset, clouds. Vehicles in motion: planes, trains, boats, autos, bikes...
The subject of the photo is not stationary."
Pre-Lims
The preliminary round, where we look to get 30 (we hope) photos will be opened on August 15th. Depending on how long it takes to get enough photos to launch the voting process remains to be seen. For planning purposes let's say we start the voting on the 22nd. That should allow us to finish no later than the 29th.
Rules and Stuff
Please keep your entry no larger than 1024 pixels in its longest dimension and under 675K in file size. If you need help posting a photograph or with image sizing, just ask.
The Volunteer Host is the final authority in their contests. The Volunteer Host may enter a contest as long as the Volunteer Host is not the previous winner and has not selected the theme for the contest which they are hosting.
Submissions will be limited to 30 entries maximum unless the Photography Group votes to change the limits.
The Winner of the contest agrees to pick the next month's theme. The Winner of the monthly contest may not enter the contest for which they selected a theme.
The Submission & Comment threads will be posted in the Photography Group. The Preliminary polls and Final Contest poll will be posted in GD per Skinners permission.
The Host of the Contest may copy and paste these rules into their submission thread or post a link to these rules into the submission thread. The Host WILL copy and paste the CONTEST LICENSE into the submission thread in its entirety. (At bottom of post)
CONTEST LICENSE:
An entrant to this contest, by submitting a photograph, is giving permission for that photograph to be copied to Demopedia or to a linked Gallery and included in a DU Calendar that will display the photographs entered for this contest for the purpose of publicizing future contests and/or commemorating current and past contests. The entrant retains all other rights to the photograph being submitted. Neither Demopedia and/or a linked Gallery may use any photograph submitted for any purpose other than to display the photograph being submitted by the entrant, and neither gains any real or implied ownership rights to the photograph.

(3,158 posts)I wish I could enter this one. 😊
Thank you mnhtnbb for suggesting the topic, and thank you everyone who submitted contest ideas. I had a really hard time choosing one. I finally decided that an action shot would be a nice change of pace for us. One of the wonderful facets of photography is the ability to freeze time.
Good luck everyone. I can't wait to see the entries.
