While Olympus, er, I mean OM Digital Solutions is still talking about stupendous knock your socks off vaporware coming in '22 they have actually issued firmware updates for existing cameras. What makes this really interesting is that it updates the bodies for Panasonic, Sigma and Tamron lenses. What makes it even more interesting is that Sigma and Tamron don't currently make m.4/3 lenses! Even more interesting the announcement references a Pany update to make Oly lenses compatible. Something seems to be afoot! OMDS has also announced that the name 'Olympus' will be phased out over the next 'few' years.

Canon has a bit of an Oopsie. The R3 which was supposed to have a 45 meg sensor seems to only record 24 meg images. Photo editors working with images from the Olympics found the dimensions of the pictures were 6000x4000 pixels which works out to 24 mpxl. The Ra records 30mpxl and the R5 45mpxl.

The pixel wars have raged since the early '00s and frankly don't impress me much. I've got 5 meg images from a Nikon P&S the print well to 13x19 inches and a 16meg that went to 30x40 and passes the sniff test (get close enough to smell the ink and still can't find a flaw). It ain't the pixels, it's the PICTURE.

(149,616 posts)I think you're onto something with the pixel wars. It was eye-opening to me to discover that all those pixels every manufacturer brags about is just so much hype!
That revelation made it much easier for me to concentrate on the picture.

(8,891 posts)about pixel count and sensor size, and now can't find it, but did stumble across this on FB. ENJOY!
Hello, I'm Darrell Rosanna Dana.
What's all this talk about megapickels? I like normal sized pickles just fine. This aggravated me so much that I thought I was gonna die!
What do pickles have to do with photography anyway? I have never had a desire to eat pickles while taking pictures, or even wanted to take a picture of pickles. Especially megapickels!
Yesterday, I heard a woman talking about how she wants a new Nikon D850 or Z7 to get all the megapickles she needs.
For what? Who needs such large pickles? The juice would corrode the camera controls. Maybe I just don't get it!
What! it's not megapickles? It's megaPIXELS! Oh...never mind!
