Beautiful plants during the spring and summer, but I also remember all of the flat footballs during the fall and winter because of the thorns on the plant. We had a bouganvillea bush in our front yard that I had to prune when I was young.

yard when I was growing up, I'm from Florida so often I was barefoot, going from the ocean to pool to the next body of water, we often didn't have shoes on. I had a whole branch of a Bougainvillea Bush stuck in my foot once. It hurt so bad. My parents loved them, and they are beautiful, as long as you're careful around them.

...with them around it. The last time I had to paint a pergola over the entryway to a house, covered in bouganvilleas, I ended the day with a shredded bloody shirt & enough scratches all over me that it looked like I had an all-out fight with a couple dozen angry cats on meth.

I also have a customer whose dog was chasing something (squirrel maybe) & ran into a bouganvillea after it. A bouganvillea spike pierced its eye, leading to a huge vet bill & a poor dog that's now blind in that eye, with ongoing suffering & medical complications from it.
