(5,420 posts)I know a couple of pros who say making a living at photography seems to have dimished the fun of photography. Too much emphasis on "getting the shot." Then the next and the one after that I'm just grateful for this forum on DU and to post my art on my wife's Facebook pages as well.

(57,073 posts)That's sad that aspiring photographers find that turning pro diminishes the joy of the art.
Makes sense though.
Lucly for us as we will continue to enjoy your fabulous hobby, and you will continue to find joy in your natural gift!

(5,420 posts)Only the two who are friends. Their experiences were more like sometimes missing the fun of picking up a camera on a whim because they'd seen something that appealed to them and wanted to see it and preserve it and maybe share it with others, just "because." They still find joy in the process of calling on their professional skills to produce beautiful images, having learned to balance doing what they love doing with the demands of clientele.
I am pleased to know that people enjoy my photography. Thank you for your kind words.

(25,853 posts)I happen to live in Santa Fe, NM, and often have gorgeous skies, especially at sunset. I'm not one to take pictures, alas, but I do love and appreciate beautiful skies.
Thank you.

(25,853 posts)I've lived in several different parts of this country, travelled to various places, and honestly, there are gorgeous skies everywhere. We just need to go outside and take a look.

DU photographer Grumpy Old Guy recently posted on Thu Aug 12, 2021, 12:08 PM, night sky photographs for which he travelled two hundred miles and stayed up all night to get a shot of a Perseid Meteor with the Milky Way. Patience.
