(149,611 posts)Making art is pretty easy, but this one is easier than most, since the stitches aren't complex and the results so dramatic.
My mom was very skilled in this, and did a lot of it. I found this footstool in their home after they'd both passed. I was so happy to be able to take it home where I see it every day.

(149,611 posts)Some clothes had been dumped on top of it and my curiosity got the better of me!
And my brother said "sure there's room for it in my car!"

(149,611 posts)It's living in a little niche in the corner of our family room, where it has its own little spotlight! It's visible from 2 separate rooms and it makes me so very happy to see it.

(7,808 posts)I have a sofa cushion with a mass of crewel violets on it. I finally got the cushion of the bench it sits on recovered in a medium dusty purple, and every time I walk past them, my brain smiles.

(149,611 posts)It is needlepoint. Exquisitely stitched by my late mom. I think it was a kit, but I don't really know, and frankly, that doesn't matter.
It is a footstool. And you bet no feet in my house will ever go onto it!
It's sitting in a little niche which keeps feet away, but still allows it to be seen in all its glory.

(128,905 posts)Hard to tell the size of the piece to get stitches to the inch on it.

(149,611 posts)It's not accurate as far stitches to the inch is concerned, but maybe the enlargement will help. Anyway, enjoy!

(128,905 posts)I know petit point is usually somewhere around 20 stitches to the inch and regular (standard) needlepoint averages about 10 stitches to the inch.
I have a little pile of needlepoint and petit point pieces around that I did years ago.
That is a beautiful footrest! I know that type of stitching is wear-resistant!

Would that also be considered cross-stitch?
