(3,162 posts)Glad to be the first to post.
I'm not sure of the quality of the image because I'm on vacation and working off my phone. I hope the resolution is good. I can always substitute a sharper version if it's not.
Good luck everyone!

(751 posts)Where is Silver Lake?
Grumpy Old Guy
(3,162 posts)Silver Lake is in the June Lake Loop off Highway 395 in California's Mono County. It's about fifteen miles north of the Mammoth Ski Resort. We go every year.

(751 posts)We live fairly close but always forget about it when planning vacations. I think I need to convince the wife we need to go there in 2023.

(3,162 posts)There is so much to do and see anywhere from Lake Tahoe south to Lone Pine and Death Valley. It's laid back and rarely crowded.

(149,611 posts)Took it last December when I was looking for the moon, which was nowhere to be seen!
I love this photo for the glittering reflection below the pier. To me, it just makes the photo.
And I'm loving all the photos already entered!

(22,380 posts)I posted mine, and it is too large. I have forgotten how to make it smaller with Imgur, and postimages is not co-operating. I apologize - I tried hard, and failed.
On the other hand, I hope you like my snapshot.
Tom Kitten
(7,347 posts)I like the bw and the angle of composition and it looks like a still from some sort of continental movie...
About the size, well..
I'm on the web using my phone only this morning my home pc is without the internet for some reason so I can't tell how big it is so maybe I can help resize it when I get the web back, would that big ok? Hopefully later today I hope!
Mira
(22,380 posts)that I am not alone in having posted a photo that is too large. It seems that the size restrictions are not observed uniformly. As a person who has run many contests I have in the past alerted folk to resize, or kept my mouth shut and did it for them, which can take quite a bit of time.
Therefore I wanted to say I am aware I'm posting one that's too big, but could not yet figure out a way around it.
Thanks for your response. If the others stay large, leave mine large as well. Thanks. And thank you for your kind and positive words about liking my photo.
Grumpy Old Guy
(3,162 posts)Contact me via DM. You can e-mail me the pic and I'll resize it for you. I'm out of town right now, but I'll be home tomorrow night and could take care of it on Thursday.

(7,347 posts)I guess when I look at all the photos and put the polls together is when I'll deal with whatever other problems I discover !
Tom Kitten
(7,347 posts)Eight more to go! We have ten photos each the first two days and two more today so that's pretty good so far! I'll post in the lounge tomorrow morning and see about opening up whatever spots are left for a second entry during the weekend.
I really like all the entries so far I'm quite impresed by the beauty and the variety.

(7,347 posts)I'm glad you like it! I made it myself with Image Ready I cant remember how long ago. I didn't know about the movie but it is now definitely on my must see list. I have his Cat Land book and have always been a fan.

(36,281 posts)It's always exciting to see the range of entries in DU photo contests. The wide range of DU membership brings a diverse community of photographers to this group. There is always something unusual or unexpected!

(7,347 posts)I like abstraction in photos as well as in other, well, art. I liked your first one too.

(27,442 posts)I liked them both but thought the other shot might be too minimalist for this challenge. 🙂

(16,389 posts)Re: "Seadragons Watching Reflected Video" submitted by Tom Kitten
I didn't know what seadragons were and wasn't sure what I was looking at, so I goigled. And wow, what fascinating creatures! My flabber is well and truly gasted.

(7,347 posts)I'm glad you like my photo! They're like camouflaged sea horses! And are found down Australia way, where I've never been so I took those at the aquarium at Long Beach. I thought the composition turned out well plus it isn't blurry. (the light is pretty low in their exhibition rooms) My camera I had was just a Sony point and shoot but it had a good lens I was able to take some pictures with it. Some day I'd like to upgrade right now I only have my phone camera.

(7,347 posts)The way I figure it I might as well just leave the entries open until the deadline which i'll leave open until the wee hours Monday morning. I'm thinking I don't think it's really necessary to open up a second submission for just three more entries and we do have enough photos for three rounds of nine each if we have no more entries. Does that sound reasonable or should I just open it up for a second submission? I'm leaning towards just leaving it open as it is. I am quite happy we got 27 though!
Grumpy Old Guy
(3,162 posts)If you opened it up now for second entries only three people would get them. That would seem to be a lopsided advantage.
