(31,989 posts)to capture such detail in that bird while in flight! Amazing shot, George!

(5,420 posts)It's because my Olympus camera takes fifteen frames a second and it has a fast telephoto lens attached. Plus, I probably shot at least seven or eight images to get this one, cropped it to place the bird at upper left so it looks like she/he was looking for a place to land. And added sharpness to enhance detail.
Thanks for noticing!

(149,611 posts)I read your post where you explained just what you did to achieve this outstanding result, and I am very impressed!
Ya done good!
The bird looks genuinely puzzled.

(1,636 posts)Even if you're not a professional photographer.
Tons of free photo-fiddling software out there that let's you apply filters, etc for a new take on an old pic.

(1,636 posts)...take an ordinary pic and apply a filter that added almost 3D depth to an image.
I believe it took existing shadows and angles in a pic, added more in the right spots for such an effect.
Playing with that one I made something that looked like an overhead moon landscape, and if zoomed in, it would be hard to tell the difference if you didn't see what was done from the beginning.
One of the most amazing finished products I've seen was a youtube video with an original photo of a full body shot of a plus-sized woman, where the artist using a number of digital tools pared her down to maybe a 3rd of her original size, with no odd looking distortions, etc to give away that it wasn't an original. Pretty sure that was Adobe Photoshop too, and a demonstration of what it could do.

(1,636 posts)I haven't fiddled with with photos since my early 20's. I'm 46 now. Any original stuff I did has long since been deleted or accidentally lost, etc.
I played with programs like that to see what the fuss was about, what they were capable of, and to help recommend apps to people with real skills.
Everything I did was with a simple mouse, keyboard. Imagine a proper artist with a digital drawing pad and a proper understanding of a good modern photoshop app!

(5,420 posts)When I started out with digital photography I thought that any manipulation of, any changes to an original image would be ethically wrong. Subsequently I ended up a couple of low-cost applications and changed my mind. I decided that making an original photo better was worth doing. After all, in the end I want my art to be appealing to a viewer.
On the other hand I appreciate computer repair guys. I imagine your skills have come in handy.

(1,636 posts)Raw specs are:
Processer: AMD Ryzen 3 3.6Ghz, 4-core (4 processors running together)
RAM: 16GB
Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of its own ram, the more the better for anything video related.
Storage: 1 500GB internal flash drive that I installed and run Win10 exclusively on for speed
2 1TB regular hard drives
Also, 1 Blu-ray burner, with that and all other storage drives connected using modern SATA cables (only thing the motherboard supports) to get rid of speed bottlenecks slinging data around
...and a couple of big internal fans to keep the rig cool. never worry about overheating in the summer or otherwise, no matter what abuse I put it through.
It's a simple setup, but one I researched well before buying all the parts, assembled within a night once all the pieces arrived.
*edit - after throwing a few of those tantrums on crappy keyboards, I spent around $50 on a mechanical keyboard (think heavy commodore64 keyboards) that can handle a swat or 2 when I get caught in a corner playing doom, can't move and get killed...

(5,420 posts)We're still nursing along an eleven year old iMac. Looking at replacing it with one of the new twenty-four inch iMacs and splurging for two tbs of storage. Have you heard anything about the new macs?
canuckledragger
(1,636 posts)I think they're overpriced crap, the result of one company controlling almost everything about it originally, software and hardware. The hardware part of it worked different than the PC's which is why the software to run it was different and again, overpriced. Nowadays the hardware on a Mac isn't much different than a PC, making the price thing that much more outrageous.
PCs on the other hand (anything that will run windows) have thousands of companies making parts and software for them, driving the price down and making it WAY more easier for guys like me to swap out what I need without breaking the bank, not to mention there's so much more software written for them.
Macs were known once to be better for graphic design for some reason, but I think it was probably subtle marketing propaganda to push apple products (Star Trek TNG all computer screens shown were supposed to be mac-generated graphics) but that was decades ago. No advantage to either MAC or PCs for that kind of thing, other than price, familiarity and ease of use, and that thing is mostly due to the apps you use, not the hardware or software needed to run it.
If you like Apple, look into getting a new Mac, just pay attention to the specs like I described about my own PC.
If you want a change, talk to a local computer geek you trust to build one for you like I did, inexpensively. The only catch is warranties and servicing if it needs it. I buy my own parts, and they're warrantied separately, (as long as I don't do any naughty performance hacking that pushes hardware beyond warrantied limits that is...) but the machine as a whole is not. A brand name PC like a DELL is warrantied as a whole, but you're stuck with what little options companies like that give you for alternatives. And changing things out after the fact voids those warranties.
things to consider before making your next purchase!
