I have reached LIGHT nirvana with a Turkey Vulture

if not QUALITY/DETAIL nirvana.

Had they not been so high there would be more detail, but then I might not have been able to track him as well. Either way, I'm majorly satisfied with this one.

The little inset is how he looked in the viewfinder @ 1200mm, so you know he was up there.😁

Great Photoshoppery. Even a bird with a brain the size of a pecan knows enough to wear a mask.

I don't understand how the know something died. They show up in no time.
Twice I have had dead deer on my property. They clean it to the bone in two days.

but virtually no blur/focus, almost only noise because it is so heavily cropped and it's my Df which is only a 16MP sensor. Most bizarrely, and for the first time ever, I could make no improvements in Lightroom with my normal adj of shadow and blacks, this is pretty much the raw shot, which tells me it is just serendipity. Lucky me. Take 100s and finally get one that brings it all together.

I'm like a crackhead with these soaring birds, no matter how many really good photos I have, there is always the chance of grabbing that one that will blow my mind, I just can't stop! All the soaring birds are just so graceful and majestic.

The backlit wings and the angle of the head give this shot a drama that is striking.

Gotta say, that's the nicest looking vulture I ever saw! They can be right purdy -- from a distance!

I love these birds so much (they get a bad rap, they're very important to the ecosystem) and the capture of the light on the feathers is just majestic. Thank you for sharing this!

when I lived in rural Texas I would be mesmerized watching turkey vultures glide in graceful circles in the sky.....on land they look hideous but in the air they are majestic!

Thanks for the beautiful photo of the glowing, golden wings of the turkey vulture. In North America turkey vultures are sometimes referred to as buzzards, as is done in the video below. On some occasions, when I am tooling around in New Jersey, I will see a flock of turkey buzzards high in the sky. If I can I stop to watch them because their flight is so magnificent, the true essence of flying. They seem to do it without barely a breeze. Your thoughts can be carried aloft just seeing it. In the video, these birds are circling above their roost. Not carrion.
