overthinking The Great Pumpkin
For what was at least the 40th time, I watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, on TV the other night. For some reason, I was extra-observant during this viewing.
1. When Violet draws the jack-o'-lantern on the back of Charlie's head, the crooked mouth matches the zigzag stripe in his shirt.
2. I've always known that Snoopy's battle with the Red Baron was just a dream sequence, but it's always bugged me that the bullet shots on his doghouse keep appearing and disappearing.
3. A Charlie Brown Christmas originally aired in 1965, followed 10 months later by Great Pumpkin. Linus believes in both Santa Claus and the birth of Jesus in the Christmas program, but for some reason or another instead believes in the Great Pumpkin in time for Halloween. I wonder what happened in that 10 months that caused him to dump Santa Claus?!
4. When I was a little girl, I saw Great Pumpkin for a number of years on a black-and-white TV. And one year I had the lights off. The World War I battle scenes are really quite eerie in black-and-white and in the dark. They can give you the chills!
