anybody watching?
Last night they went from two tribes to three. They are trying to mix this up. And it seems like they are doing more challenges with puzzles this time, trying to balance out the brawn.

(26,260 posts)I had watched it from the very first series, but then it got to be so 'what, this again?' and the contestants were pretty much comprised of the kind of people I try to avoid.
But after a LONG break, I did start watching again, and loved the way they are shaking things up. Maybe I'll hop on to 'On Demand' and catch up on this season.

(16,334 posts)I think they knew it so they had not played it up in advertising. I didn't know it was on until a few episodes in. I sorta feel it has run its course but they do try to change things. This one is something about old idols that got played incorrectly or not at all.

(26,260 posts)I loved the first 10 or so seasons. After that it got to be far too predictable and, IMHO, the show almost became a parody of itself. These shake up were much needed.

(66,328 posts)I didn't sense at the time that it would unleash a tsunami of tawdry reality TV shows, but I'm glad my initial lack of interest protected me from the deluge.

(1,945 posts)Way back in 90s and into the 2000s Mark Burnett put on the Eco challenge (which had evolved from another competition that he bought the rights to--see below). My husband and I used to watch those and they were really good. Not long term survival but brutal team competitions with various means of transportation like bicycles, kayaks, hiking etc. They lasted several days vs Survivors 39 days. And it wasn't a soap opera like Survivor is. I remember being excited that he was putting on Survivor after the Eco challenge was dropped, that it would really be about survival, that it would be similar to the EC. Obviously not so. Disclaimer, we still do watch Survivor. It's our guilty pleasure and I always admit to it with shame, lol.

(15,805 posts)Contestants with physical strength always had an unfair edge, but it was the prevailing Lord of the Flies attitude that made me turn it off.

They must give them shaving kits.

(16,334 posts)they are told what to wear and what to bring. I don't think they get razors though but I know they get sunscreen. I read somewhere they do get very hairy and dirty and the camp reeks.

(16,104 posts)The last couple of "seasons" they seem to be throwing in some more wrinkles changing up some of the old strategies contestants and viewers expect would work.
Some of it is maddening! Like first thing they do now is run off into the jungle looking for immunity!
Still remains an eye-opening experiment in human behavior - right down to who they give the money to!

(21,137 posts)Going on. It is not censored. Even though I could barely understand what they were saying I got hooked and watched it when I was there for 7 days. I used to watch the US survivor but it was so contrived. The no holds type they have in ItAly is way more entertIning.

(16,334 posts)I watched Big Brother for one season only because we knew someone on it. I really didn't get into it even then.

(30,736 posts)I'm not sure why. This is a very dull season.
I got angry with them last season when they changed the rules at the last minute to let the veteran win. His was a shit, too. The woman deserved to win.
My husband wants to watch this season, so I am going along, without much enthusiasm. I'm being polite about it.

(16,334 posts)maybe the problem is lack of interest in being a contestant by people who ARE interesting, lol
