Anyone else a fan of Longmire on A&E TV?

A new season starts Monday. I came across reruns of the first season, and I think I'm mostly caught up and ready for the season premiere.

I like crime shows, but I was tired of everything being centered in NY or Miami. The scenery in "Longmire" (fictitious Absaroka County) is incredible. I like the acting and the characters, too. The presence of the Cherokee Reservation nearby adds a lot to the stories.

3. Oh, you're right. My brain picked

my husband's tribe name (he's part Cherokee) instead of remembering it's Cheyenne, which makes sense.

And Cherokee were in north Georgia, too, IIRC.

4. I enjoyed all Craig Johnson's Longmire mystery novels first.....

Read them and thought they were great. I was happy when I heard they were going to make a tv series based on those books and it has not disappointed!

Yep, I watched all the first season over again yesterday and can't wait for the second season to start on Monday night.

I'm about to finish up Season 2 of The Killing and I'll have nothing to watch on my commute. I think I'll give it a shot.

P.S. If you like crime shows that aren't centered on the big cities, give Justified a try. I think there's 4 seasons worth in the can.

FWIW, I read the show is filmed in New Mexico and the actor playing Longmire is from Australia.

Robert Taylor that plays Longmire is Australian! Wow, he does a great job with the American accent--or not having his native accent 'show' through. I assumed that he is from the US.

I just caught up with the first season on Netflix and have been enjoying it a lot.

12. I'm going to check this out because Katee Sackoff is in it! She's awesome!

In case you don't know who that is, she was Starbuck in Battlestar Galactica, which was my favorite character on that show. This looks like a similar tough-as-nails role for her. I'm definitely up for that. The promos I watched on OnDemand made me think of Justified, which I also love.

I set the DVR to record Season 2, and will try to fly through Season 1 on Netflix in time to catch the S2 episodes I missed on OnDemand before they go away--IF I like S1. We shall see...

Thanks for offering to fill me in on her character, Ilsa, but I don't want to be spoiled. I'm sure I'll get what I need from watching.

The series is on Netflix for streaming, so I don't have to wait for disks in the mail to see it. As long as we can binge-watch and get through Season 1 before Wednesday, we'll still be able to catch the Season 2 premiere on OnDemand, and then the next 3. I think we can do that.

You might check A&E online to see if Season 1 is available online instead of waiting for Netflix.

It's intresting as the characters are homesome...gives the feel that you are a part of that small town. It's not trying to be over the top, intense suspense drama that dominates our cop stories.

I am looking forward to the election. Now this is a small town campaign!

It's a keeper for me.

We're still liking it.

The only real problem I've had with it (and this is probably a minor thing) is that there seem to be an awful lot of murders for such a sparsely populated rural area. After the first few episodes, I was wanting them to do something--anything--else with it (drug crimes? kidnapping? burglaries?). They did, so I was satisfied with that. But there still seems to be just too many murders. I know it's based on a book series, and I know that this is just the nature of the genre. It still bugs me, though. Maybe that's why crime dramas that feature a lot of murder mysteries are usually set in big cities (L.A., New York, Chicago, Miami, Seattle, etc.). With a larger population to begin with, the number of murders does not stretch credulity so much. It's more believable. That said, I am willing to suspend disbelief enough to enjoy the unique setting of the show and the great characters.

The other problem I've had is that the Native American characters all seem kinda stereotyped as "angry Indians" with big chips on their shoulders (although justifiably so). I'd like it better if they had a wider range of character traits. On the other hand, I love that it has such a large cast of Native American characters. This is also unique, and I am willing to set my discomfort aside enough to enjoy the simple fact that they exist as a part of this drama. I keep hoping for some deeper character development, though. Show me that they have more than one note.

Those are my only complaints, though. This show is now on our "can't miss" list. So, thanks for the head's up about it!
