This is a little bit of old news, but I thought I'd post it anyway...
---------------------------------------------
The ACN News Night team is coming back for a third and final season.

The Sorkin creation, set behind the scenes at a cable news show, will have no shortage of potential news events to incorporate into the third season, including the Newtown School shooting (December 2012) and the Boston Marathon massacre (April 2013). The series' second season, which rolled out July 14, ended with a two-parter taking place on election night 2012.
Though the series, starring Daniels, Emily Mortimer and Sam Waterston, has found itself on the receiving end of media criticism since its summer 2012 debut, it has performed for HBO. In addition to an Emmy win for Daniels and decent ratings -- the season-two premiere lured 2.2 million, up 4 percent from season one -- Newsroom has delivered a passionate, elite viewership that includes such bold-face names as Dan Rather and Brian Williams, and the kind of high-brow conversation that comes with it.

They are saying September 2014 for the season 3 debut.
I think Sorkin really screwed up season 2 when he filmed the first couple of episodes and then tossed them in the can. The series has been good, but I think it was viable beyond a 3rd season. Lots of important events didn't get covered.

(31,167 posts)I was hoping this could run for at least 5 seasons. But I can imagine it's difficult enough to produce three good seasons as awesome as Newsroom let alone 4 or 5, so it's best to go out on high note.

(297,180 posts)I loved it. I've read the 2nd season isn't as good but can't imagine how it could be so great and then take a dive. I'll see for myself when Netflix gets it.
Glad they're coming back for a 3rd. thanks davidpdx
I didn't even know DU had a TV chat.. lol
There isn't a heck of a lot of traffic through this group.
What I've heard happened with season 2 is they filmed the first two or three episodes and Sorkin went to HBO and said he wasn't happy with them and asked if he could scrap them. HBO said yes and that caused them to go over budget. So instead of doing 10 episodes they did 9.
I'll only say that the story is complex so you have to wait a few episodes to fully understand the storyline. They keep you hanging for a bit.

(297,180 posts)golden. I laughed I cried and couldn't believe I was watching "news" again.. the way it should be.. the one they did about Gabby Giffords and the night bin laden was killed comes to mind. I haven't seen any corporatemedia "news" since 2002.

(22,000 posts)It seems like they missed a lot. I also like those two episodes. The end of the one where Giffords was shot I was in tears.
I am a huge Maggie fan and want to see her and Jim together.
