Billy Bob and the rest of the cast sucked me in. That first episode blew me away! Now I'm hooked.

from films.

I cannot think of too many TV series adapted from a movie to be good. The only one I can think of is MASH.

Because of CATV there are more good television series than ever in the history of television.

6. This is the best show on tv now, imo

I LOVE the female police officer - she's such a refreshing break from all the angsty males (tho, I did love Mmc's Rust on True Detective - which was strange, for me, b/c I was never a big MMc fan - in fact, I've never seen one of his romantic comedy movies - but his performance got me past my assumptions about him.)

Fargo creates an entirely different world - grounded in reality - well, sort of. Malvo is out there - but I could believe Platt's King guy existed.

btw, some people have speculated that...

MAY BE A SPOILER

....

stop reading if you don't wanna know...

....

The painting of the snow scraper in Platt's study commemorates finding the scraper Buscemi's character, in Fargo, used to mark where he had hidden money (in 1987/) So, this show is set in the 1990s, and Platt's guy made his money by finding the ransom money from Lundegaard's attempt to bribe his f-i-l.

I would love that.

your spoiler didn't spoil it for me. But I will probably look up the details so I get it.

Here is something interesting:

The story turned out to be false, but the urban legend continues.

11. I have a few observations about tonight's episode.

I've lived in Minnesota for my entire life with the exception of just under a year in Green Bay.

The opening scene in the sporting goods store was interesting. The 'best offer' on the socks is not uncommon in independant stores like this. It's a passive aggressive move that occasionally happens.

There is no way a Minnesota sporting goods store that also sells guns would sell even the cheapest side-by-side double barrel 12-guage for 50 bucks, not in 1996 or 2006 or 2014.

Towards the end when the guy taps on the window of B.B. Thornton's SUV and the guy says something like "...we bring casseroles to families' after a funeral...". What he would really say in Bemidji is 'hotdish', not 'casserole', if he was a born and bred Minnesotan that is.

but Garrison Keillor is asshole off the air. I used to work with one of Keillor's co-stars on his radio program.

I have not read his books, although I do own a copy of Lake Wobegon.

Contrary to Keillor, Fargo the movie and this television program, the people in Minnesota who have the thick 'Fargo' accents is quite small.

If you can see this program from the beginning, it's worth the effort. I especially liked the mountain scenes just outside of Bemidji in the finalle episode of the first season.

The mountains are visible because the production was done in and around Calgary.

Edit:

I guess I missed the part about Lester going to Montana.

Buena Vista seemed like a mountain.

I also noticed that the killing spree in Fargo was filmed in Minneapolis (at least that is what the buildings in the background looked like). The Federal Building they used for Fargo at least looked close.

on location video shoots were in Calgary. I wonder if this series was produced like a movie and everything was shot in Canada?

I remember in the film they showed the two bad guys driving into Minneapolis from Brainerd. The Minneapolis skyline shot they used was actually a view of Minneapolis from the south, not the northwest.

I thought one of the skyscrapers in "Fargo" looked familiar. It would explain the mountains. I'm sure they spent a lot of budget on actor salaries (which I am glad for) so even just going to Fargo and other locations to get establishing shots probably was too much of an expense.

I remember that shot in the movie and thought that was unlike the Coens. I think it is a prettier shot, but it's not like they aren't from the area to notice those things.
