Pima County supervisors call for Sheriff Nanos to step down

At least two Pima County supervisors say they plan to file a motion to have the sheriff’s office vacated if Sheriff Chris Nanos doesn’t step down by Tuesday.

The supervisors claim Nanos lied under oath in an unrelated lawsuit when he denied ever being suspended as a police officer in El Paso.

CBS News has obtained several records showing Nanos was suspended several times for alleged infractions, including unnecessary violence and being late.

“He has definitely lost the confidence of the community. He’s embarrassed himself and it’s time for him to go,” said Dr. Matt Heinz, Pima County Board Supervisor. “In no way has the Guthrie investigation ever factored into this. It really hasn’t.”
