My daughter's high school is forcing graduation on Juniors that have completed their graduation requirements. Is this common for all Arizona high School? If so why are they doing this?

(5,208 posts)Kids need time to mature and what about taking AP classes that some colleges want to see on their report cards?

(31,849 posts)says that this is possible, though rarely exercised. The reason is in AZ, once a student completes their graduation requirements, the state no longer provides funding for that student and the school district would have to absorb the cost.

(5,208 posts)the school seems to be encouraging kids to graduate early. Do they get some kind of incentive for graduating kids early?

(31,849 posts)funds for the students. The schools get to NOT have to pay for the students the state won't fund.

(5,208 posts)but, do the schools get any kind of incentive for getting the kids out and saving the state money. I know that Arizona has some type of scholarship for the kids that finish in 3 years because it saves the state money, but do schools get anything?

(31,849 posts)Nope. The schools get nothing except not having to cover the expense of the "over-staying" student.
One would think they would get something, as it is a sign they are doing something right.

(5,208 posts)you don't live in AZ. I did not allow the school to kick my daughter out because she wanted to apply to one of the selective colleges in Mass and needed the AP classes. She will be leaving for Mass. in September and I'm getting the heck out of this state soon thereafter. We have lived here six years and the political climate of this state is so unwelcoming to liberals.

(55,008 posts)all the people that I ever knew who could graduate early did so and did it intentionally to GTFO of there. None had any interest in last semester or last year if they were done.
Sorry I am no help, this was a new perspective for me. Didn't know schools cared or that anybody would want to stay.
wanted to stay to serve as Student Body President as well as to take AP classes that would prepare her for college. I could not believe it when they wanted to kick her out. I know what you mean though about some kids wanting to GTFO of there. I was one of those kids too.
