Last night it barely cooled off and I couldn't sleep.
HATE THIS WEATHER!!
Anyone else agree??
Is it never going to get cool and stay that way?
Hurry up Autumn!!

(15,805 posts)Ugh... Weather report warns it's going to stay hot and muggy for a few more days. I'm melting... m e l t i i i n g!

(22,896 posts)I'm hoping that it's Fall's Last Gasp!!
What's odd is that here in the SF Bay Area, whose typical humidity level is in the 60s, currently has a humidity
level of SEVEN PERCENT. Nope, that's not a typo.
I'll have to remember to drink water all day.
Stay cool
procon
(15,805 posts)The humidity is already at 44% and its 86º, but we're usually extremely dry down here, in the high teens to low twenties, but I've never seen it get as low as yours. I notice when the humidity drops I get sinus pain and my eyes feel dry and gritty, but that dryness is the only thing that makes the heat somewhat bearable if I have to go outside of my air conditioned house.

(22,896 posts)I think the radio got it wrong. I just looked it up on weather.com and it said it's 44%. That's more
like it.
I was just reading about how the A/C sucks the moisture from skin-- what are we supposed to do,
just sweat it out? I'm not so evolved that I'd turn my A/C off!!
Looks like it won't be cool until Sunday... damn!! An eternity when it's sweltering.
Ciao

(53,339 posts)Antelope Valley, here. The cruel joke is when the overnight temp drops while the humidity is increasing, so it doesn't feel any better.
But I'm afraid we'll be complaining about the "cold" California weather soon enough.
procon
(15,805 posts)I generally refer to the better known Mojave Desert because very few people have ever heard of the Antelope Valley. Worse yet, I'm out in the boonies in the Antelope Acres area and even people who live in town don't know where we are.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)Not far from you. Looks like we ARE neighbors.
procon
(15,805 posts)We rode horses all through the town and some of the stores still had hitching posts back then. Different era.

(53,339 posts)Some of my friends here still have horses. But it's the roosters that wake me up in the morning.

(22,896 posts)I love the cool weather! Bring it on!!
PasadenaTrudy
(3,998 posts)here in Pasadena. Sept and Oct are our hottest months. I just stay in with the air con running 24/7.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)i can afford the AC bill, but I let it get to around 85 before I use it. When we get a cool spell I get a chill--and discover the temp is in the mid-70s.
The tricky part is acclmating back to the cold weather ("cold" being relative, here in CA). It helps to get out in the cold weather early and often, rather than bunkering in. And I'm as stingy about using the furnace as I am about using the AC. I bundle up like the little brother in A Christmas Story.

(3,998 posts)I feel best when it's in the 50s. I'd move out of CA if I could.

(22,896 posts)(I'm a native) and wouldn't want to live anywhere else (except maybe Washington state).
Love those chilly temps!
ailsagirl
(22,896 posts)I've tried but no luck. When I was a kid, summer meant no school, sleepovers, and all-day swimming.
No longer, obviously. Now when I have to go out my door, I'm greeted with the equivalent of a blast
furnace.
My ancestors were Scots-- that's why I'm thinking I'm more a cold-weather type (but not snow!).

Just looked at the mercury-- it's 100 degrees in the Bay Area

(15,031 posts)so I'm thankful for small pleasures.
And hey, my air conditioning went out yesterday, so I'm thankful to be saving so much on electricity during this high-rate period.

ailsagirl
(22,896 posts)Probably doesn't matter in terms of the heat. I lived in Davis for many, many years-- don't know
how I stood it. At least it's a dry heat-- I wouldn't want to live anywhere with high humidity in the
summer months. I've heard tell it's AWFUL and far worse than a dry heat.
Hang in there-- I still think this is Summer's Last Gasp!!

(22,896 posts)Preferably ocean fog but even tule fog is nice and mysterious (if you can avoid driving in it)
Let's hope it continues

(22,896 posts)Indoors, my Peace Lily nearly croaked! Its leaves were hanging limply over the pot's rim. I watered it and spritzed it and watered it again and spritzed it again and finally it's coming back.
It looked fine earlier in the day. Sheesh!!
There's even a garden spider I can see from my window that hides in the leaves when the temps soar.

(247 posts)Yes it's damn hot today in SLO. Thankfully we re-coated the roof with a white elastomeric sealer that keeps the roof cooler so inside the house it now warms up considerably less.
ailsagirl
(22,896 posts)I just hope the forecasters are correct in their assertion that we'll have a wet winter.
Fingers crossed!!
It's good you had your roof re-coated-- things like that always make it nicer when the heat hits.
