1. GET REGISTERED

2. WHAT TO BRING
Generally, California voters are not required to show identification before they cast ballots, but if you’re voting in a federal election in California for the first time and did not provide your driver license number, your California identification number, or the
last four digits of your Social Security number on your registration form, you may be asked to show a form of identification when you go to the polls.

That’s why you should be sure to bring identification with you to your polling place or include a copy of it with your vote-by-mail ballot. A copy of a recent utility bill, the sample ballot booklet you received from your county elections office, or another
document sent to you by a government agency are examples of acceptable forms of identification. Other acceptable forms of identification include your passport, driver’s license, official state identification card, or student identification card showing your name and photograph.

For answers to your questions about voting, including information on acceptable forms of voter identification to use at a polling place when voting for the first time, call the Secretary of State's toll-free Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE (8683) or visit

http://www.sos.ca.gov/webcontact/general/question.aspx.

3. VOTE!
Election Day is Tuesday November 6, 2012. Polls in California will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

Find your polling place: http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/elections_ppl.htm

Vote by mail
California has early mail-in voting. Any registered voter can vote by a "vote-by-mail" ballot. Completed applications must be submitted by October 30, 2012 and completed vote-by-mail ballots must be received by the elections official no later than the close of polls at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

You may return the vote-by-mail ballot in person to any polling place in your county or to the county elections office on Election Day. If, because of illness or physical disability, you are unable to return the ballot yourself, you may designate a spouse, child, parent, grandparent, grandchild, sibling, or a person residing in the same household to return the ballot to the elections official or the precinct board at any polling place within the jurisdiction.

For the latest information on where, when and how to vote early or absentee contact your County Election Office.
