And supposed to top out at 111 here in central Contra Costa. The smoke is pretty bad, giving me some trouble breathing and my eyes are burning.

That's a bad day... I wish I could have just stayed home in bed not moving, but I had to reschedule that for tomorrow.

They were affordable and the size and shape of a tower floor fan, about 3 feet high. You might try that inside with the windows shut. Outside, consider disposable face masks for the worst days.

I hope your car has AC like mine does. If so, get a clean filter. I asked my mechanic about that and he said they are good for I forget how many miles, but I pointed out my low mileage car is actually 11 years old and we've had 3 major regional fires in it's life. So for 35 bucks he pulled it out and put in a new one. The old one was all black and brown.

Other than that, if you have an allergist, go visit him/her. The worst for me was when all the poison oak burned off one time, but every time there's a fire the allergist's office is full of wheezy people. I've been maintaining well, myself, but still...

Kidding of course, my brother and sister live up there, as do some friends, something about "affording to live".

And then our weather followed...

California is approximately 164,000 sq miles of land. You neglected to give a location. As usual for this state forum.

Yesterday, the Delta breeze shut down in Solano county and heavy smoke, and even heavier smell, drifted down from the Oroville fire. The north wind is stronger today and mixing things up a bit; the smell is gone, but the smoke hangs over us like a overcast day.

Heat? Another triple digit day, for sure, and I'm still pissed at the manager at our market for kicking me and my chaise lounge out of the frozen food aisle. It was a great plan to beat the heat, and the manager is a poo poo head.

What a coincidence!

It was much worse yesterday, we couldn't see Diablo from Pleasant hill. It was clear when I went to class at 11, and it felt like something on campus was on fire when I got out at 12:20.

I was so glad I was trapped in the office today...

But this is way hotter than it ever was. I don't think we've had consistent temps over 110 before.

We are almost behind a little fold in the foothills -- we have a peek of the ocean when it's not foggy. So, waaay better temperatures than further inland where it is 110, but this is indeed a heatwave even here. We have ceiling fans and no AC and it was in the high 90's yesterday outside, and 85 indoors. Not much relief after dark.

I went shopping for furniture with my SIL yesterday in a store with 3 levels and no AC. I thought I would melt upstairs, and I think I alarm people when my face turns bright red like that. I told my SIL and the sales lady I really was not stroking out. I like that store, and hope to go back while they still have a sale and gods willing the weather cools. The sales lady and I agreed that a lot of what we are going thru at the moment is caused by humans. I looked at her collection of tattoos (dragons, heraldic devices) and asked if she was aware of the saying, "The Goddess is coming, and is She pissed." She said oh yes.

But, compared to the Apocalypse in Houston, we're just dandy as long as we don't get a fire close by.

I think I'll go put more ice in my coffee now.
