Starting April 1, all Californians aged 50 or older will be eligible to sign up for COVID-19 vaccines, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Thursday.
Vaccines will then open to everyone age 16 and older on April 15.
With vaccine supply increasing and by expanding eligibility to more Californians, the light at the end of the tunnel continues to get brighter, Newsom said. We remain focused on equity as we extend vaccine eligibility to those older than 50 starting April 1, and those older than 16 starting April 15. This is possible thanks to the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration and the countless public health officials across the state who have stepped up to get shots into arms.
The major expansion comes after the state allowed those aged 16 to 64 with certain health conditions and disabilities to sign up for the shots on March 15.

(51,632 posts)I am so glad!!! I emailed my sister to let her know she is able to get it now too. Newsom also says that people taking someone to get their shot can also get one, regardless of age, on April 1st. I wish they did that a month ago.

(51,726 posts)If you are having trouble getting an appointment online with the pharmacies or MyTurn, forget the computer and just pick up the phone and call Kaiser, 1-833-574-2273. Get to a representative, and once you're talking to a human being they will set you up with an appointment. You do not need to be a Kaiser member. Its very easy.

(51,632 posts)You're a fountain of info! I was a Kaiser member for a while but now have Blue Shield. I'll call Kaiser tomorrow and see what they can set up. I see my primary care doctor at the end of April. I wonder if he can give me my second dose.

(51,632 posts)Since I do have an illness the staffer tild me I could make an appointment today for April 22. She said if I didn't have an illness I could call on April 1st for an appoint. That is what my sister will have to do.
You're right about not having to be a Kaiser member. I was with Kaiser until 2008 but they still had my info on their computer. She said my sister, who never had Kaiser, could become a member by providing her name, address and SS number.
Good info...thanks!!!!
