Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore said this week that about half the department’s personnel had received at least one COVID-19 vaccination, with thousands now fully vaccinated.

During a meeting of the civilian Police Commission on Tuesday, Moore said 6,264 officers and civilian personnel out of more than 12,600 had received at least one shot. He said others who had not received a vaccination have had COVID-19 and may have some protection against the virus from resulting antibodies that are naturally created to fight infection.

According to recent state data, more than 41% of L.A. County residents 16 and older have received at least one shot, with more than 25% of those residents fully vaccinated. The department’s personnel, many of whom work public-facing jobs, had much earlier access to the shots than most members of the general public because of their public safety role.

The fact that half still haven’t been vaccinated suggests a large number of officers have chosen not to receive the shots. An informal survey of department personnel in January found that only 60% of respondents said they would accept the vaccine when offered.

3. Yes, all my in-laws who live in a very red part of California have refused the vaccine.

Fortunately, my husband agrees with me that we should have nothing to to do with them, and we have not socialized with them since the pandemic started. They have lost their fucking minds, insisting the vaccines will change my husband and my DNA since we are vaccinated, and they have been ranting since November that the election was stolen. I can't imagine us EVER getting together with them at this point. We used to get together at least twice a year for holidays. No more.

2. That is crazy. I have a friend who was booked to have his 1st vaccine shot

on April 19th and his business partner advised he had been exposed to covid so my friend had to instead, have a covid test and first test was negative but he and his wife both quarantined at home. The day before his shot he had a second covid test and he was positive, on the day he should have had the shot he was rushed to the hospital with his oxygen level at 56%. He is now in an induced coma and we are just hoping he makes it through, that is how fast the UK strain hit. This guy has his own small business and has practiced all covid protocols in his business and his personal life. It is frightening and sad for his family, it bothers me to no end these assholes that refuse to get the shot.
