Families paid the ransoms. This Tijuana kidnapping crew is accused of killing captives anyway.

At least three U.S. citizens, including a San Diego man, were killed after kidnappings in 2020, according to a federal indictment in Los Angeles

TIJUANA — Salvador Acosta Medina’s family did everything the kidnappers in Tijuana asked of them.

They hastily scraped together roughly $25,000 from loved ones.

They dropped the ransom inside a McDonald’s restroom in San Ysidro, a short walk from the U.S.-Mexico border crossing.

And then they waited, reassured by fresh promises from the kidnappers that Acosta, a U.S. citizen, would be freed and return home to his family in San Diego.

“We sat there and waited and waited,” his wife said. “And he never arrived.”
