Spare the Air streak continues for record 11th day in a row

Last edited Wed Dec 18, 2013, 01:42 PM - Edit history (1)

A record streak of Spare the Air alerts will continue in the (San Francisco) Bay Area on Wednesday, the 11th day in a row when wood fires are banned.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued the alert, saying stagnant air continues to trap smoke and pollutants near the ground. The streak could be broken Thursday when increasing winds and a weakening of a weather system is expected to disperse pollution.

I'm encouraged by the cooperation in my burb. Our skies in the southern Napa Valley are pretty clear ... at least what I can see. I hope there isn't a mad rush of seasonal wood burning once it's lifted.

Now, if we can just curb coal burning worldwide ...

Residents living in the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area, Orange County and the Inland Empire are not permitted to burn wood in their fireplaces tomorrow, Wednesday, December 18, 2013, due to elevated fine particulate levels forecast by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD).

Also issued for my specific area:
Advisory for Residential Wood Burning has been declared for North Orange CO, CA, on Wednesday, Dec 18.

My nose says not all residents are aware.

I feel bad, I burned wood fires in my stove through half those days not knowing there was an air alert in effect. Perhaps I should listen to the local news crap more often.
