(this event already passed, I posted so you can see what is happening in Fresno. I received the email last night from Peace Fresno)
Show the politicians that you care about the future of Downtown Fresno.
The City Council votes tonight
The Fresno City Council will vote tonight Thursday, February 27, in the City Hall Council Chamber, on the Mayor and business communitys plan to tear up our historic Fresno Mall to put in a road for cars. All of the artwork, including some very fragile pieces, will be moved to the sides and lifted onto pedestals that will put them out of reach of where children can touch and interact with them. Nearly all of the old, mature trees will be cut down and replaced with new trees that will take years before they can equal the amount of shade now provided. Many of the water features will be lost altogether under the reconstruction plan. A beautiful downtown urban park and world-renowned work of landscape architecture by the progressive Californian Garrett Eckbo will be destroyed forever.
Let your voice be heard
Attend the City Council meeting at 5 pm on Thursday, February 27 at City Hall. Everyone can speak to the City Council. You can have three minutes to let your views be heard. The Mayors rich supporters will be out in force. Our voices need to be heard too. Let our council members know that their political futures depend not on the moneyed interests of the city, but on the votes of the people, and the people of Fresno, by a wide majority, want to keep their Fulton Mall free of cars.
Emails sent today are ALSO helpful. Just go to www.fresno.gov and click on Government, then City Council, under each council member's name click "email." All you have to write is "I oppose cars on the Fulton Mall." You can write to every city council member quickly or just write to as many as you have time for. I JUST WROTE TO ALL AND IT TOOK ME 12 MINUTES. Camille
Whose mall is it anyway?
This historic centerpiece of the city belongs not just to Fresno, but to all the people of the San Joaquin Valley, whose landscape, culture, and agricultural industry is represented symbolically in the artistic elements of the Malls design. This is supposed to have a catalytic effect on the revitalization of downtown Fresno.
Wiser ways to spend the money
There are wiser, more constructive ways to spend 20 million dollars, such as improving the blocks around Fulton Mall and turning those streets Van Ness, Broadway, and Fulton Street southeast of Chukchansi Stadium into bicycle and pedestrian-friendly complete streets, with wide sidewalks, trees, and diagonal parking. But they should leave our pedestrian mall alone. If City Hall doesnt want to restore Fulton Mall, then let the people raise the money privately to restore Eckbos design and return Fulton to its former glory.

Tune in as host Pam Whalen talks with some of the supporters of Option 3, who were at Thursday nights meeting at the Fresno City Council about the Fulton Mall. Option 3, to save and improve the Fulton Mall, was not presented as a viable option at Thursdays meeting. Find out why the only two options were variations on bringing cars back to Fulton and what Option 3 supporters are going to do next.
