http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2014/12/11/are-we-storm-wimps-making-fun-of-san-francisco/University of Washington atmospheric sciences professor Cliff Mass had this to say in his blog:
A strong storm is now bearing down on the Northwest, which I will describe in a second. San Francisco will NOT be hit by this strong low center but will get a bit of a trailing front. These poor golden-state folks will experience a few inches of rain tomorrow and some gusty winds, reaching perhaps 40-50 mph in the city. And they are in panic mode, closing down the citys schools, shuttering churches and synagogues. Canceling meetings and gathering of all types.
In contrast, we have had winds gusting to 70 mph on the coast and 40-60 mph around western Washington today (see graphic). Our rivers are flooding and heavy rain is striking our region. We take it in stride. No problem. I dont like to call anyone a weather wimp, but .
blue skies in Newport Beach. I think our rain starts at midnight.

(24,470 posts)I flew from Burbank to Sacramento today. Bumpy as hell but it wasn't too bad up here. Still raining though.
But I see on Facebook that SOCal had bad tornado like conditions.

(10,558 posts)Well power has been out for 3 hrs due to this storm. It is 9:30pm, I am in my bathrobe n slippers out in my truck parked next to my home. You see the phone needed charging before i head off to sleep and this seemed like the only way to charge phone. Wish i had better reception at my home on this phone. Barely got on DU and not sure if this will post. That makes my phone the real storm wimp! (Still not sure why they call em smart, mine aint!) As storms go up here in Western Washington, this one is about average. Battery looks about half charged, good enough for me, this storm just bored me right off to sleep.
