We have Covered California

Blue Shield PPO Silver for about one year now.

What I don't get is why some medical establishments and Doctors will accept Blue Shield PPO but not if it's under Covered California.

Our plan isn't cheap. It totals around $1300 before the subsidy.

Why do they discriminate like this?

I'd would guess the CC plan pays them less. n/t PoliticAverse Feb 2015 #2

But I have seen that the question is asked and that surprised me.

I switched from CC Anthem Blue Cross to CC Blue Shield for this year and I'm really happy with it.

I hope it works for you overall better than whatever your other choices were.

and though we never got turned down for having it, we took a ration of shit whenever we went to a doctor or clinic outside our established providers.

We received no subsidy for our coverage, but we were treated like lesser souls. It wasn't right, but it was the reality we faced.

My wife and I grew leery, fearful we might need care one day and not be able to receive it, or more realistic, that we'd get turned away from a specialist we might be referred to by our physician.

We used the Covered California website to sign up in 2013, as we wanted to give as much support to the ACA as we could. This year, however, we went to Blue Shield direct. It cost the same, came with all the same bells, whistles and guarantees, but none of the "stigma."

It's all just people buying into the lies and divisiveness peddled by so many merchants of hate. Try to help our fellow citizens, try to ease life's burden for everyone, and there are those who stand on the sidelines and shrilly decry everything, with no alternatives of their own to offer.

The ACA was a tremendous improvement over the broken system we had before. It's not the best we could do, and I'm deeply disturbed by it's failures. We'll just have to work harder to get something better.

Eventually, maybe when our grandchildren are adults, there will be a better system in place. All we can do is continue to work towards improvements.

I had a Blue Shield PPO that I did not buy on the exchange, and some doctors wouldn't accept it. I just switched to Kaiser so I wouldn't have to deal with this shit anymore.

Last year my opthalmologist (a difficult to access retinal specialist) cringed when I told him my managing HMO was Alameda Alliance. He strongly advised me to choose Blue Shield during the next selection cycle - with the implied threat he would drop me as a patient otherwise.

I'm hoping he just doesn't notice thst I didn't change. Switching HMOs would turn my life upside down after I'vd spent years on building a relationship with the doctors and staff in my current clinic.
