CO Republican: Fracking is okay, it’s natural for water to burn. ‘Indians’ used it for warmth.

CO Republican: Fracking is okay, it’s natural for water to burn. ‘Indians’ used it for warmth.

A Colorado Republican state senator justified the practice of hydraulic fracturing — commonly known as “fracking” — by saying that the presence of burnable amounts of methane gas in drinking water is a perfectly natural phenomenon. In fact, he said, the “Indians” used it for “warmth in the wintertime” many years ago.

According to Right Wing Watch, state Sen. Randy Baumgardner (R) was speaking to former Navy chaplain turned conservative activist Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver.

Klingenschmitt recorded the interview for his daily “Pray in Jesus’ Name” show. He asked the Republican what he thought of the government trying to “pick and choose” and prioritize some forms of energy over others.

“I’ve been doing a lot of the fracking seminars,” said Baumgardner, “and if people haven’t been, then they really don’t understand it.”

mine operations in the other drought plagued, fracked-up states.

Of course wells run dry, the water table drops 40/50 feet, surface floods increase and the wildfires rage but the gas stocks rise! oh and the Colorado runs dry too.

the town trustees unanimously approved 13 more new oil and gas wells close to two densely populated subdivisions. Some wells will be as close as 700 feet from homes and schools and new homes may be built even closer to the Encana oil sites. Most Erie residents have fought this decision for two years and have packed the hearings. One small decision about the 55,000 wells we already have in Colorado shows the power of big oil and gas in our beautiful state and how our elected representatives are not listening to the people of Colorado.

I'm just across the county line. If those wells are on the south end, Lafayette needs to get off the couch and go sue.

(We can't stop them if they're doing it on the Broomfield or Firestone or Dacono side, but if I recall correctly, cities can sue for neighboring nuisances. That was one of the things that lead to Broomfield becoming a county.)

Sorry, I've been out of town. The Encana Oil and Gas sites in Erie, north of Vista Ridge and west of Vista Point. The Daily Camera's coverage of the long fight against fracking and the Trustees' decision has been good. Many people went to the meeting and spoke against the wells but they are really frustrated.
Sadly, the elected reps like Polis, Hickenlooper, and Udall are trying to walk the fence as most are backed by big oil and gas. The TV ads have been ridiculous and the Denver Post mostly prints op-eds from gas people about how stupid the anti-fracking people are. Boulder County is home to some of the most educated people in the nation and most of them have done their homework and don't want wells near our schools and homes.
