Formica outpolled Ritter in every town in the district, with New Londons numbers still outstanding, for an unofficial lead of 15,023-10,241. Formica won in his hometown of East Lyme and Ritters hometown of Waterford.
If Formica wins it would be the first time in a quarter century the 20th District will be represented by a Republican.
The last time a Republican represented the district was 1990 when the late Lawrence J. Bettencourt was elected. He served a single two-year term before being replaced by Democrat Melodie Peters, who held the job until Democrat Andrea Stillman succeeded her a decade ago.

And Ritter's seat also became Republican.

(16,336 posts)I live in a very blue town. One of the few true working class towns. I have a democratic Town government, and HAD, 100% democratic state representation at all levels. And 100% national representation, though that at least will hold.

(56,841 posts)However, I saw hundreds of Formica signs all around East Lyme and only a handful for Ritter, so I'm not surprised he won. On the plus side, East Lyme and Waterford both went for Malloy over Foley. so, a lot of split tickets. Formica ran unopposed by Democrats for first selectman in East Lyme last year...
