State settles potential $500K child labor case with Roma Italian Ristorante in Dover

State officials have settled a lawsuit claiming an Italian restaurant in Dover faced up to $500,000 in fines for violations of state child labor laws, an attorney for the restaurant's owners said Friday.

Children under the age of 16 were permitted to work at the Roma Italian Ristorante for an illegal number of hours when school was both in and out of session, attorneys representing the Delaware Department of Labor said in the lawsuit filed in December.

Sean Lynn, an attorney representing the Roma's owners, said he found out the lawsuit had been settled Friday afternoon when he called the Delaware Department of Justice, whose attorneys represent state agencies like the Department of Labor in litigation.

He said the settlement includes no admission of fault on the part of his clients but declined to say whether it involved a fine.
