Vote for progressive Elissa Silverman for At-Large councilmember!

This November we have a good chance of getting a good progressive on the council, Elissa Silverman. Silverman’s been a strong supporter of efforts to get corporate money out of politics (she was one of the organizers of Initiative 70), and has elected not to accept any corporate contributions in her run for office.

She’s in support of paid sick leave, a higher minimum wage, and has a strong knowledge of the issues from her work as an analyst at DC Fiscal Policy Institute. The Current newspaper, while endorsing her opponents, called her the best-informed candidate. However, they felt that she stuck too strongly to her progressive beliefs, and criticized her for supporting a bill requiring stores like Walmart to pay their employees a living wage.

This is a real good chance to improve the council, so I strongly suggest members here to vote for Elissa Silverman on election day.

Also remember, you get two choices for the at-large race! I would recommend not voting for Anita Bonds, who’s one of the poorer members of the council (though she’s going to end up winning one of the seats). I’m considering voting for Graylan Hagler as my other choice (the Working Families Party endorsed Silverman and Hagler).
