Florida congressman Charlie Crist expected to announce bid for governor next week

Charlie Crist, the state’s former Republican governor turned Democratic congressman, is expected to announce next week that he’s making a second run for governor as a Democrat.

Crist said in a recent television interview that he is considering running for governor and tweeted Saturday that he will make a “major announcement” on May 4 in his home town of St. Petersburg.

Crist won the governor’s mansion as a Republican in 2006 after many years in GOP politics. He decided not to seek a second term, instead running in 2010 for a U.S. Senate seat, which he lost to Sen. Marco Rubio.

In 2014 Crist tried to mount a comeback as a Democrat, losing the governor’s race to former Gov. Rick Scott, who is now a U.S. senator.

We are a red state and see it getting worse esp with Desantis and he has solid support. I like Crist and he would do well as Governor but to elect any Dem will be a very heavy lift.

an effort. There is soooo much they could do. Maybe they’ll actually try one day.

It seems the most effort we’ve made in quite some time was 2018. In 2018, it seems like we almost pulled out all the stops. We had decent candidates with gubernatorial candidate with good enthusiasm, and giant rallies. We came within a hairline fracture of winning.

It doesn’t seem like the party has expanded on that outreach. Big rallies, bringing out the big gun Barack Obama, having good candidates were all good. It almost worked. Now, continue with that and do more.

For the presidential race (if I recall correctly, that being the only statewide race in 2020), maybe they thought Biden had a other paths to 270 without Florida… which ultimately he did. However, that’s why the consistency wasn’t there but I hope to see that same enthusiasm we had in 2018 with a little more outreach.

I hope those running for Democratic offices get together and figure out who is going to run for which office instead of being in competition with each other. It sounds like Nikki Freid has hopes of running for governor and Val Deming is indicating that she might run for governor or against Rubio.

One of the reasons the Democrats have been suffering was partially related to Coronavirus. Republicans were running around door to door to sign people up and spread their lies in South Florida about how a Biden win would make this country a socialist country like they came from, we Democrats were socially distancing and trying to stay safe. I just read something yesterday that said my own City has more Republicans than Democrats and it just flipped before the last election. I was surprised because the loudmouth Republicans seem to rule the place.
