DeSantis admits to finding 1 million expired COVID-19 tests stockpiled in warehouse

DeathSantis is an asshole

In a press conference Thursday morning, Governor DeSantis admitted state officials found 1 million unused COVID-19 tests in a warehouse. The admission came as DeSantis unveiled a plan to get 1 million COVID-19 tests to Florida’s seniors.

Today’s revelation follows allegations by Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried that the governor was stockpiling tests which were soon expiring. On Wednesday, the Governor’s office called that allegation “bizarre.”

The Governor said he’s asking the federal government to extend the expiration date on these newly-discovered tests.

My sister runs a hospital lab and sent us a bunch of expired rapid tests when my mom tested positive and we couldn't find any more tests at local stores. They were exactly the same as the home tests you get at the store, just packaged differently. My sister must have known they were still reliable but I never asked per specifically how far past the expired date would be a problem.

apparently on the manufacturer and when they expired. The FDA has extended some expiration date however that is not generally recommended.

“The test kit’s expiration date is not the only factor that may affect its quality. The way you store it matters, too.”

“• Storing test kits properly is crucial in ensuring that they work properly and accurately.”

“Depending on the design of the test, it might give you either a false positive or negative test [result],” Campbell said. “Don’t do it. A wrong test is worse than none at all.”

6. Ron DeSantis administration confirms up to 1 million COVID-19 rapid tests expired last month

Division of Emergency Management (DEM) Director Kevin Guthrie is confirming that between 800,000 and 1 million of the state’s COVID-19 test kits recently expired — but said there was no demand for them.

The Abbott Laboratories rapid tests expired last month amid Florida’s sharp rise in COVID-19 infections. The omicron variant has caused cases to skyrocket across the country and in Florida, resulting in long lines at testing sites. Shelves of at-home rapid tests have also gone empty in stores.

DEM, which operates under Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Office, manages the state’s testing stockpile. The stockpile is made available to hospitals, nursing homes and more state-supported response hubs.

The batch of rapid tests expired between Dec. 26 and Dec. 30.

This is a major screwup by DeathSantis

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state's top emergency management official confirmed Thursday that 800,000 to 1 million Covid test kits in the state's stockpile recently expired without being used.

At a Thursday news conference, Kevin Guthrie, the director of Florida's Division of Emergency Management, told reporters when asked about the state's stockpile: "We had between 800,000 and a million test kits, Abbott rapid test kits, in our warehouse that did expire."....

With the omicron variant driving record case counts up and down the East Coast, Florida is currently experiencing its largest case surge of the pandemic.

Yet last week, Floridians reportedly waited up to three hours to get a Covid test as cases and potential exposures spiked due to the more infectious omicron variant. On Dec. 21, Miami-Dade County’s Mayor Daniella Levine Cava wrote to Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo asking “that all possible tests be directed to Miami-Dade County to meet the growing demand for testing in our community," WPLG Local 10 reported.
