Former toll road board member Scott Batterson sentenced to 7-1/2 years in prison
Scott Batterson was sentenced this morning to 7-1/2 years behind bars after his conviction on two bribery-related charges.
Batterson, who has been incarcerated since his Aug. 26 conviction, was granted bail this morning. It was set at $10,000.
A young Republican who used political connections to win a seat on the board of the Orlando Orange County Expressway Authority, Batterson could have faced up to 30 years in state prison; court guidelines had recommended 3-1/2 years.
Orange County Judge Jenifer Davis revealed Batterson's fate in her courtroom after 11 a.m.
Batterson's attorney, Amy Tingley of Orlando, said Thursday she intended to appeal his conviction to the Fifth District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach.
