UCF is hiring 100 new faculty members

I think they are trying to break away from their reputation of being called "U Can't Finish."

The University of Central Florida has created 100 new full-time faculty positions throughout the academic colleges in one of its biggest hiring spurts in recent years.

"It's a huge deal," said Dale Whittaker, UCF provost and vice president for academic affairs. "We're adding expertise. We're meeting students' needs. We're diversifying faculty."

Officials plan to spend about $12.4 million for the new positions, using state funding that rewarded UCF for its performance.

The hiring is unusual at a time when most universities aren't expanding payrolls because of the economic climate, according to the American Association of University Professors.
